Elva Grey Johnson Brown, 61 of Macon, died on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Portsbridge Hospice following a long illness. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church with the Reverends Creede Hinshaw and Jimmy Towson officiating. The family will receive visitors following the funeral service in the Parlor at Mulberry. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta.
A native of Valdosta, Ms. Brown was the daughter of the late Dr. Alton M. and Jean Grey Johnson and is survived by her daughter, Grey Louise Feagans and son, Robert Alton Brown, her sisters, Ruth W. Jennings of Macon and Valliere (Byron) Jones of Grayson and her brother, Alton M. “Buddy” (Jean) Johnson, Jr. of Valdosta and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ms. Brown was with the Amerson Company for 24 years and served as President for 14 years. She was President of Middle Georgia Apartment Association and was a member of Ocmulgee Bird Hunter’s Association and the Georgia Bird Hunter’s Association.
As a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, Ms. Brown served as chairman of the Worship Committee, chairman of Council on Ministries and was a member of the Administrative Board.
For many years, she was chairman of the Acolyte program of Mulberry, a ministry of service for youth which enhanced the worship services and to which she devoted most of her energies, even throughout her last illness.
