Elsie Lewis Walker

Elsie Lewis Walker, 65, passed away June 6, 2015, at her home with family and friends by her side following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Elsie was born August 3, 1949, in Eufaula, Alabama, to Leroy Lewis and Lois Purswell Lewis. She was the youngest of three siblings. She graduated from Eufaula High School in Eufaula, Alabama, in 1967. After graduation, Elsie attended cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser and cosmetologist in Eufaula, Alabama, and Valdosta, Georgia. She also ran a successful daycare business in Valdosta, and in recent years she was a beloved presence at Valdosta High School, where she served in various roles.
Elsie was deeply devoted to her Christian faith, family, and friends. Her optimistic, caring and selfless demeanor meant that she was always ready with a smile and words of encouragement for loved ones and strangers alike. She treasured her home of Valdosta and the supportive community at First Baptist Church, where she was a member.
She is survived by her son Matthew Lovett Walker and his wife Grace Coughlin Walker of Gainesville, Florida; grandson Cameron Lovett Walker of Gainesville, Florida; sister Linda Lewis Hart of Valdosta, Georgia; sister Tony Lewis Mustama of Burlington, Vermont; the following nieces: Kathryn Mustama Kent, Karolyn Mustama Realms, Sharon Hart Carter, and Jennifer Hart Courson. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews, several cousins, and her constant companion Chance her Dog. Elsie is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lovett Walker and her niece, Karen Mustama Faircloth.
A memorial service will be held at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta on Thursday, June 11 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Chuck Owens and Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. The family will receive visitors at Carson McLane Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
