Elsa Fenton Parsons of Valdosta passed away at home, after a happy life, on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2008. She was born November 12, 1926 in Tallahassee, Florida to parents, Harold Fenton Parsons and Marguerite Maxwell Parsons Cullen.
Her greatest joys were her children, Lynn and Buddy LaHood of Valdosta, Georgia, her son, Hugh McCallum and his wife, Suzanne of Key Largo, Florida. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, Sally and Trav Paulk and children Travers, Eli, Buck, Mary Rebecca, and Henry Fenton of Ray City, Georgia; John and Crystal LaHood and children George V., Annie, Jack, and Brown; Becky and Mabry Smith and daughter Sophie Marie; and Matthew LaHood, all of Valdosta, Georgia, Kathleen and Kyle St. Germaine and children, Marie and Noah of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Doug and Veronica Kerr and children, Shatara, Gracie and Bianca of Loudon, New Hampshire. Also surviving are nephew Harry and his wife Connie Parsons and daughters Claire and Rachel of Jacksonville, Florida, nephew, George Koelliker of Miccosukee, Florida, niece, Lindy Parsons Grigsby and her children Jenny Pannell and Matthew Grigsby of Merry Point, Virginia, sisters-in-law, Brenda Parsons of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and Ann Carter of Merry Point, Virginia. She is preceded in death by infant daughter, Margaret, her parents, step father, Brown Cullen, sister, Nan P. Koelliker, brother, Maxwell Parsons and niece, Sarah Koelliker Hagler.
Elsa maintained life long friendships with dear friends in Tallahassee, Gainesville, Lake City, and Miami, Florida and in Valdosta, Georgia. She was a member of Circle # 3 of First United Methodist Church, Valdosta, and was the founding member of the Literary Tea Book Club.
For those of us who were loved and cherished by Elsa, our lives will forever be changed and enriched by her deeply loving heart, true southern charm and dignity, sharp intellect, delightful humor, courageous spirit, gracious hospitality, deep abiding faith, selfless and sacrificial love, and unabashed generosity. The beautiful music of her guitar and voice and the essence of who she was will remain one of our greatest gifts and inspiration for generations to come.
Visitation will take place at the home of Buddy and Lynn LaHood on Saturday, December 6, from 4p.m. until 7 p.m. A private family service and celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Georgia Chapter, 2303 Parklake Drive, Suite 210, Atlanta, Georgia 30345.
The family extends deepest gratitude for the compassionate care and loving support given to Elsa by Bethany Hospice, Lyn Dobson, R.N., Dr. Francis Coelman, Dr. Billy Tidmore, Dr. Alan Woods, Susan Allen, R.N., and dear friends including Oterice Simmons, Elnoa Watson, and Vida Boyd.
