Elizabeth Thomas

Elizabeth (Libby) Thomas, 87, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on Monday, June 1, 2009, at Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Valdosta on February 14, 1922, the daughter of the late James B. and Benita Tomlinson Fender. Libby was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church. She worked as a civil service employee at Moody Air Force Base before starting her teaching career with the Valdosta City School System. She worked diligently with the Northside Baptist Church visitation ministry by making home visits, telephone calls and sending cards.

Survivors are her daughters and son in law, Benita and Richard (Dick) Hall of Valdosta; Penny Thomas of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Mathew Alexander (Mickey) Thomas; son, Michael Thomas; special brother in law, L.P. (Buck) Thomas; sisters, Lucy Tanner and Sue Lee; brother, Eugene Fender; her beloved canine companion, Happy.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Robert Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to express appreciation to Jessie, her caregiver at home, the staff and caregivers at The Palms at Langdale Place and the staff at Langdale Hospice House for the care and love given to Mrs. Thomas during her illness.
