Elizabeth Ann Odom died on March 23, 2024, at her home in Valdosta. She was 70 years old. Libby Odom was born on August 8, 1953, in Hahira, GA. She was the youngest child of three and only daughter of James Childs Odom and Helen Marnelle Parker Odom, whom predeceased her as did her brothers, James Childs Odom, Jr., MD. and John Gregory Odom. She is survived by her sister in law, Debbie Powell Odom, her niece, Lauren Odom Brogdon, her husband Dusty Brogdon, and their children Madelyn Faith Brogdon and Mason James Brogdon.
Libby attended school in Hahira and graduated from Lowndes High School in 1971. She attended Hollins College and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College. She studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. She received her Master's Degree in school guidance and community mental health from the University of Georgia.
While living in New Orleans Libby acted as Regional Coordinator of Parents Anonymous for a seven Parish area and as Chaplain for the New Orleans World's Fair in 1984. She was a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors throughout her career.
She found her passion in medical counseling after returning to Georgia, becoming the first Patient and Family Therapist at Greenleaf in 1985. She worked as a therapist at the Center for Personal and Family Growth for several years before going into practice with Counseling Associates and later in solo practice as Counseling Services in Hahira. As her mother's health declined, she became her caregiver for several years and came to know hospice care in a more personal and passionate way. She began working as a hospice counselor for patients and families shortly after the loss of her mother.
Before her own lengthy illness, Libby loved her interactions with friends, travel, especially abroad, photography, voracious reading, all animals but especially her beloved pets, and all things involving family.
