Eleanor Faye Smith

Eleanor Faye Smith, 76, of Statenville, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015, at South Georgia Medical Center.

She was born October 5, 1938, in Mayday, a daughter of the late J.J. and Sarah Watson DeLoach. Mrs. Smith, a lifelong member of Statenville Baptist Church, had served as Echols County Tax Commissioner for twenty-two years, and she enjoyed participating at the Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by her four children, Lawton Jeffrey Smith and wife Delores Ann of Echols County, Sharon Kaye Carter and husband John of Thomasville, Jack Dwayne Smith of Nashville, and Melissa Gaye Pittman and husband Jerry of Echols County; ten grandchildren, Thomas Jeffrey Smith and partner Trisha Klyber of Wheat Ridge, CO, Steven Andrew Smith and partner Alisha Ponds of Stockton, USN HN Travis Jordan Smith, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Victoria Bailey Carter of Thomasville, Chelsea Rhae Carter of Valdosta, Nicolas Maxwell Carter of Valdosta, Derek Eian Smith of Nashville, Sarah Elizabeth Smith of Nashville, John Gabriel Smith of Atlanta, and Hannah Alexis Pittman of Echols County; five great-grandchildren, Eian Smith, Laylen Audrey Hines, Dillon Klyber Smith, Arden Klyber Smith, and Laynee Ponds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawton Audrey Smith; and a sister, Patricia Ann Brown.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Statenville Baptist Church, with Rev. Ted Sauls officiating. Interment will follow at Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home, Lake Park.
