Eldon Rudolph Crosby, 74, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at his residence. He was born on July 9, 1934 in Adel to the late Robert Etheridge and Bennie Ruth Smith Crosby. Mr. Crosby was retired from the United States Air Force having served from 1952 until 1972. He was a purple heart recipient, a veteran of the Korean conflict and the Viet Nam War. Mr. Crosby was a member of Northside Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World, Disabled American Veteran's and was an avid John Deere restorer.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn J. (Cammin) Crosby of Valdosta, one son and daughter in law, Ricky L. and Rae Dean Crosby of Valdosta, one daughter, Kathy Brisindine of Fort Payne, AL, one step son, James Cammin of Valdosta, two step daughters, Sheila Cammin of Valdosta and Machele Touchton of Abilene, Texas, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, two brothers, Eston Crosby of High Springs, FL, Jerry Crosby of Fort White, FL, two sisters and one brother in law, Sandy and Rankin Smith of Beach City, TX and Cheryl Laplaka of Manhassett, New York, several nieces, nephews and special friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John David Crosby, Curtis Crosby and Larue Crosby and one grandson, Calvin Joseph Crosby.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009 at eleven a. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Willis and Reverend Jim Schappaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn City Cemetery in Adel with full military honors. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Friday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, the American Cancer Society or to the building fund at Northside Baptist Church.
