Elanor Finklea Spivey, 94, of Valdosta, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Wellington Place Assisted Living Home in Kennesaw, GA. She was born in Hyman, S.C. on January 27, 1918 to the late Samuel Pierce Finklea and Virginia Italyne Finklea. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, James Littleton Spivey, Jr., two sisters, Jean Bateman and Mary Ann Blanton both of Valdosta, and her brother Walter Finklea of Tampa, FL.
Survivors include her son, James L. (Joyce) Spivey III of Valdosta; daughter, Elanor Mae (John) Rucker of Kennesaw, GA; daughter, Cindy Louise Elia of Kennesaw, GA; and daughter Jenny Jo Spivey(Ron) Aycock of St. Augustine, FL; four grandchildren, Russell Rucker, Cynthia Jo Cox, James L. Spivey IV, and Kristan Green; and six great-grandchildren.
For many years Mrs. Spivey and her husband were members of Central Avenue Church of Christ in Valdosta where he served as an Elder. Mrs. Spivey traveled extensively in church mission efforts and was a daily Bible reader. Most recently, she was a member of the St. Augustine Road Church of Christ. Those that knew "Suggie", knew of her passion for cooking.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2013, at Sunset Hill Cemetery, with Mr. Deland Guthrie officiating. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Sunday, January 13, 2013, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Raintree Village, 3757 Johnston Road, Valdosta, GA 31601.
