Elaine Bartlett Holloman, 72, passed from this life to eternal life on November 18th, 2024 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Madison, FL, due to complications of metastatic breast cancer. She lived her early life in Jacksonville, FL after being adopted as an infant from the Children's Home Society of Florida in St. Petersburg, FL. She graduated from Lee High School in 1970, and attended Valdosta State College, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1974. She earned two Masters Degrees in Education and Special Education in 1980. While at VSC, she met her husband, Randy, whom she married in 1978. Elaine overcame many obstacles in her life, including dyslexia and learning disabilities. These experiences led her to teach special education with empathy, compassion, and by setting challenging goals for her students. She worked as an educator in various school systems during her career, including Ware County Schools, Valdosta City Schools, and Cook County Schools, where she retired in 1999.
Elaine dedicated her life to caring for children as a babysitter, candy striper, teacher, parent, and grandparent. Elaine taught herself to quilt, and to sew stuffed animals and doll clothes, often gifting family, friends, and even children's hospitals with the fruits of her labor.
Elaine enjoyed travel, especially the 2002 Rail Pass tour up the East Coast into Canada and down the West Coast and Glacier National Park to the Grand Canyon. The highlight of her summer was always the Waldecker Family Reunion held at The Arrahatteck, outside of Richmond, VA, where she spent time swimming, entertaining younger cousins, and visiting with her extended family.
She is survived, and greatly missed, by her husband of 46 years, Randy L Holloman; by her daughter, Lauren E Holloman, of Wake Forest, NC; by her son, Ian F. Holloman, and his wife Monique, and their daughter, Harper. She is also survived by her brother, James A. Bartlett, of Hoover, AL.
A private Celebration of Life and reception will be held in her honor January 4th in Valdosta. Her ashes will be scattered at a future date at her favorite place in the world, The Arrahatteck.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, St Jude’s, The American Cancer Society, or a local animal rescue.
