Eileen Cox Langdale passed away on Friday, September 3, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was 91 years old. Born in Santa Rosa County, Florida to the late Decar Covington Cox, Sr. and Minnie Gibson Cox, she had been a life long resident of this area. Mrs. Langdale attended Valdosta State University and graduated from Brenau College. She was a homemaker and taught school in the Lowndes County School System for a few years, was also an honorary life member of the Camellia Garden Club and a member of the South Georgia Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Valdosta.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harley Langdale, Jr. of Valdosta; a sister in law, Betty Terry Cox of Thomasville; a nephew Stanley Covington (Sue) Cox of Valdosta; a niece Peggy Cox (Jimmy) Carter of Hahira; a niece Betsy Cox of Jacksonville, FL and a nephew, Clement C. Greene of Valdosta, and many cousins, great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by a sister, Jeannette Holmes Winter, two brothers Decar Cox, Jr. and Robert Lee Cox, and a niece, Jean Holmes Greene.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2010 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Dr. Phil West and Rev. Mack Weaver will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home this evening, Sunday, September 5, 2010. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Valdosta, 200 W. Central Ave., Valdosta, GA 31601; Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602; or the Humane Society of Lowndes County, 307 E. Jane Street, Valdosta, GA 31601.
