Edythe Matthews Fowler

Edythe Matthews Fowler, 93, known to many as “Miss Edythe” of San Diego, California and formerly of Twin Lakes went peacefully to the Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 surrounded by her family. She was residing at ‘Silverado’, a beautiful, caring Alzheimer’s home in Escondido, California over the past year. Before moving there she was a longtime resident of Twin Lakes. Small in stature, but a dynamo in life she was noted for awards received in many of the arts; sewing, quilting, cooking, ceramics, etc. Mrs. Fowler was an adult Sunday School teacher at Lake Park Baptist Church for many years. She was the managing secretary for husband George’s business and later retired as secretary for the Department of Agriculture Crop Insurance division.
Her husband, George Fowler preceded her death in 1968 and her son, George Henry Fowler preceded her in death in 2004.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Mary Gene and Benny Hassell of Escondido, California, granddaughter, Kerri Hassell and great granddaughter, Cassidy; granddaughter, Kelly Cashman and great granddaughters, Taylor, Bailey, Sydney and Riley; sister, Leona Ashcraft of South Carolina; granddaughter, Michelle Fowler and great grandson, Tyler.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 2:00pm until 3:30pm at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park. A private interment will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
