Edwin Frank Hoff, JR. PhD., 70, of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on January 30 after a long illness.
He was born in Belleville, Texas on August 1, 1938, to the late Edwin (Spot) F. Hoff, Sr. and Eliza Bader Hoff. He graduated from Madill High School in 1956 and continued his education at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry in 1960. Following his passion for chemistry led him to North Texas University where he earned his Masters and Doctorate in Chemistry. He then worked for Frito Lay helping to develop the Doritos chip before moving to Houston to use his knowledge to help develop specialty rubber products. In the early 1980s, he moved to Valdosta to work in research/development for the Griffin Corporation where he worked for 20 years. He was a kind and loving husband, father and friend to many. He loved to cook, work on ceramics, jewelry, gardening, and help mentor the many foster children that he and his loving wife, Madolyn helped take care of during the 15 years they operated a foster home in Valdosta. Three times their extraordinary efforts were recognized by Lowndes County by being awarded Foster Parents of The Year. He touched many lives and offered good advice to all who knew him, all the while using his "special" brand of humor to help get his point across. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his wonderful wife Madolyn Hoff, loving daughter Shawnee Tyler and son Robert Hoff, son Scott Tyler and wife Jennifer, and granddaughter Leeah Tyler of Valdosta, son Sgt. Patrick Tyler, and his wife Alise, and grandson James Tyler stationed in El Paso, Texas, daughter Lisa Hoff Kamali and her husband Dr. Touraj Kamali, grandsons Nicolaus and Andreas Kamali of Fairfax, Virginia, and son Edwin F.
