Edward Timothy Melton, Jr., 78, of Quitman, formerly of Thomasville, died at his home on Friday, November 11, 2016. Born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 13, 1938, he was the son of the late Edward Timothy Melton and Helen Virginia Taylor Melton. Mr. Melton served 8 years in the National Guard. He was employed as a clerk with the United States Postal Service and served as President of the Local American Postal Union in Thomasville. He was a member and Secretary/Treasurer of B'Nai Israel in Thomasville and a member of Temple Israel in Valdosta.
Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Vivian Dixon Melton of Quitman; his children, Edward Timothy Melton III of Quitman, David Forrest Melton (Amy) of Thomasville, Michelle Melton Akins (Brooks) of Quitman; grandsons, Edward Timothy Melton, IV (Heather), John Brooks Akins, Jr. (Cricket), Austin Akins, Nicholas Melton; granddaughters, Kristi Melton, Malori Melton, Shelby Leopold, Brooklyn Melton, Emma Melton; great grandchildren, Jayne Akins, Edward Timothy Melton, V; sisters, Brenda Melton Taylor (Jan) of Thomasville, Deborah Melton of Birmingham, Alabama; several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Linwood Melton.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rabbi Moshe Elbaz will officiate. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
