Edward John Eckert, 65, of Valdosta and formerly of Long Island, New York, beloved husband of Joyce and father of cherished son, Christopher, died on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at his home after a short illness. Born in Queens, New York, on November 19, 1939, he was the son of Edward and Dorothy Adametz Eckert. Mr. Eckert served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was Director of Plant Operations for the Greenleaf Center, was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Stone Creek Golf Club. <br><br>Survivors are his wife, Joyce Eckert of Valdosta; son and daughter in law, Christopher and Laura Eckert, granddaughter, Julia Ann Eckert of Long Island, New York; his mother, Dorothy Eckert, sister and brother in law, Francine and Frank Arcoleo of Leesburg, Florida; brothers and sister in law, William and Ana Eckert, Kevin Eckert of Alameda, California; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Eckert. <br><br>Services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2005, at 12:10 p.m., at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church with Father John O’Brien officiating. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. at St. Johns on Sunday evening with visitation following until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Johns Catholic Church or to Hospice of South Georgia.
