Edward Elisha (Po Ed) Guess
On April 8, 2008 the world lost a wonderful, one of a kind man. Edward Elisha (Po Ed) Guess, 75, of Valdosta died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center. Affectionately known by all as Po Ed, he was a constant source of fun, laughs, wisdom and above all love. A loyal friend, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He instilled in his children his feelings of goodwill toward his fellow man, a zest for life that knew no boundaries and a deep abiding love of God and His word. He will be forever missed by family and friends.
Mr. Guess was born in Brooks County on August 31, 1932 to the late Elisha and Sallie Griffis Guess. He was a member of the Forrest Park Church of Christ and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Guess was employed by Owens-Illinois for twenty three years. He was the builder and original co-owner of the Fishnet Restaurant before going back to the homeplace and building Po Ed's Seafood Restaurant where he and his wife and children enjoyed working together for twenty four years.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Florene Forte Guess of Valdosta, one son and daughter in law, Scott Edward and Ann Guess of Valdosta, three daughters and three sons in law, Sandy and Mike Sapp of Valdosta, Tina and Charles Harrell of Hahira, Lori and Chip Belote of Jennings, Fla., his grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan (Gina) Thursby, Eli Harrell, Scotty (Lauren) Sapp, Todd Sapp, Devlin Belote, Morgan Belote, Candice Davis and Dylan Everett, his great grandchildren, Layla Sapp, Joshua Thursby, MacKenzie Davis, Zack Lamb, one brother and sister in law, Leonard Eugene and Geraldine Guess of Valdosta, very special sister in law and brother in law, Faye and Dwight Leek of Thomasville, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Virginia Guess.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Friday, April 11, 2008 at the Forrest Park Church of Christ with Mr. Jason Roberts and Mr. Bill Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the Forrest Park Church of Christ, 4263 Perimeter Road, Valdosta, GA.
