Edward Albert DeWitt, 77, of Valdosta died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on January 10, 1935 in Easton, New York to the late Sylvester James and Peggy Sissom DeWitt. Mr. DeWitt was a Baptist and had served in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed being with family especially his grandchildren. Mr. DeWitt loved travelling, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Celene DeWitt of Valdosta, his children and their spouses, Donald and Judy DeWitt, James DeWitt all of Valdosta, Tammy DeWitt of Hope Mills, NC, Deborah Naraine, Andrea and Leonardo Alcantar, Melinda DeWitt and Jason Bennett all of Valdosta, 22-grandchildren, 40-great grandchildren, two brothers and sister in law, Gerald and Charlotte DeWitt of Everett, MI, Victor Konifka of Monroe, NC, five sisters and two brothers in law, June and Paul Swanson of Fonda, NY, Maxine and Bill Snow of Ogden, UT, Virginia Konifka, Frances Konifka both of Augusta and Phyllis Konifka of Gloversville, NY. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Albert DeWitt, Jr., a daughter, Celene Daphne Fortune, a grandson, Dennis Karl Barton, II and a granddaughter, Lexus Breanna Wood.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, January 6, 2013 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Schappaugh officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the DeWitt Family to help with expenses.
