Edna Rumfelt Armstrong

Edna Lawrence Rumfelt Armstrong, 90, of Valdosta died on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on October 29, 1922 in Murphy, North Carolina to the late James S. and America Montgomery Lawrence. After graduating from Belmont High School in Belmont, North Carolina she began a life of travel and adventure. She has lived in many parts of the world such as Iran, Karachi, Pakistan, the Panama Canal Zone, just to name a few. During her lifetime she has lived in or visited an estimate of twenty three countries, making her a true globe hopper. Here locally, she enjoyed being with her friends at Langdale Place and participated in the rich and fullfilling daily activities with those she shared her life with. She was a member of the East Belmont Baptist Church in Belmont, North Carolina and attended Morningside Baptist Church here in Valdosta.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Bobby Moore and Nanci and Bill Kendall; two granddaughters and their spouses, Angel and Giles Godwin and Amy and Jason Witherspoon; three great-grandchildren, Callie Jayne Witherspoon, Lanier Godwin and Mallory Godwin all of Valdosta; a sister, Lena McCall, age 101, of Gastonia, North Carolina; a special niece and her husband, Pat and Bill Blackard of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and a loving caregiver, Barbara Jenkins of Dallas, North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lewis Rumfelt and Hayes Armstrong as well as six siblings.

Services for Edna Lawrence Rumfelt Armstrong will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the East Belmont Baptist Church in Belmont, North Carolina. The burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Belmont. The family will receive friends locally on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. at Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta.
