Edna Bird Norton, 94, of Valdosta died Monday, October 23, 2017. She was born in Winnsboro, South Carolina and had lived in Valdosta for the past sixty six years. Mrs. Norton was the oldest member of Northside Baptist where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher, active in the WMU and served on the flower committee. She loved tending to her flowers in her yard, cake decorating, sewing and was well known for her jams and jellies. Mrs. Norton had great pride in her family. She was also a member of the Ambassadors with Georgia Power.
Survivors include sons and daughter in law, Jimmie Ray Norton of Gainesville, FL, Kenneth and Margaret Norton of Kingsland, GA , her daughter, Barbara Norton Ridley of Adel, GA. Her grandchildren, Kenneth Paul and Michelle Norton stationed with the United States Navy, Selina Norton and Randy Rodnicki of Savannah, GA, Rick and Iline Norton of Caledonia, MS, Kevin and Jenn Norton of Kingsland, GA, Jason and Jade Norton of Denver, CO, Krystalyn Dawn Norton, James and Jeff Whitehurst of Alpharetta, GA, Matt and Tammie Ridley of Martin, GA. Also surviving are great grandchildren, David, Aiden, Moya, Audrey, Erin, Lisa, Toni and Allyson, Alex, Zack, Maggie, Gabrielle, Margaret, Cyndall, Abby, Rowan, Alyssa and Dyllan, Cody. Her great great grandson, Caleb. Her sister is Margaret Bird Harris of Miami, FL and her sister in law is June Lanier Bird of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Norton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, October 26, 2017 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-7:30pm at the funeral home.
