USAF Lt Col (Ret.) Edgar L. Garland, 92, of Valdosta, passed away at his home after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
He was born April 18, 1923 in Wilmington, OH, a son of the late Leo Robert Garland and Ada Miller Garland. He was a World War II veteran, served three combat tours in Viet Nam and was a training pilot during his military career.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and following his retirement he was very active in the Knights of Columbus, was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Harvey Burch of Orlando, FL; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Frank and Chris Garland of Orlando, FL, Robbie and Noreen Garland of Aurora, CO, and Tim Garland of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Todd, Rebecca, Janet, Adam and Erika; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Daniel of Cincinnati, OH; three brothers, Bill Garland of Centerville, OH, Bishop Jim Garland of Marquette, MI, and John Garland and wife Precon of Glendale, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Howell Garland; a brother, Robert Garland; and a sister, Roselee Curtis.
A Memorial Service for Lt Col Garland will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at St. Joseph's Chapel at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the Service at the Chapel. Interment with military honors will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
