Edgar Howard Coody, 82 of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at his residence. Born on April 27, 1922 in Lowndes County, he was the son of the late Richard A. and Mattie Zipperer Coody. He retired from the civil service after 23 years of service and worked as a combination welder for the Naval Weapons Station in Charleston, SC. He was a member of Redland Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Moore Coody of Valdosta; daughter, Sanra Burris of Valdosta; step grandchildren, Bob and Tonya Burris of Summerville, SC, Patricia and Clint Holmes andTom and Stacy Burris of Richmond, VA, Donna and Dave Sutherland of Washington State; three step great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Eunice Thompson of Jesup, Lavinia Hammock of Clyattville, Maxine Cothron and Mary Foster of Valdosta, Vernita and Clair Fletcher of Lake Park; brothers and sister-in-law, L. T. and Gladys Coody and Willie Joe Coody of Valodsta and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mamie Lou Speer, Mattie Clyde Albritton, Agnes Redish, Marie Aschenbrenner and brothers Grover Coody and Richard A. Coody.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2005 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Redland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
