E.D. Johnson, Jr.

E. D. Johnson, Jr., 91, of Hahira passed away his home on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 after brief illness. He was born in Dexter, Georgia on October 29, 1917 to the late Enoch Daniel and Lou Etta Hooks Johnson. Mr. Johnson graduated from Statenville High School in 1934, Georgia Southwestern College in 1936 and Georgia Alabama Business College in 1937. He began his career at Hahira Hardware Company working as a bookkeeper and later as store manager. In 1963 he purchased Hahira Hardware Company and retired in 1974. He and his wife traveled extensively before he opened the Montgomery Ward Catalogue Agency in 1976 and after a few years there he moved on to work with Miller Hardware in Lakeland and Valdosta. He left after four years to open Johnson's Frame Shop in Hahira where he enjoyed daily visits from his hometown neighbors. He retired from picture framing after twenty years.

Mr. Johnson enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife of 65 years, Eathel (Jiggs) Futch Johnson of Hahira, his son, Danny Johnson and his fiance' Wanda Thompson of Hahira, his daughter, Linda Light and son in law, Gerald Light of Valdosta, six grandchildren, Cherie Kools (John) of Atlanta, Christy Walsh (Bobby) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Jennifer Reaves (Keith) of Valdosta, Melissa Johnson of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Lee Jackson (Annie) of Pavo and Reid Jackson (Kelley) of Brunswick and 9-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Hubert Womack and a grandson, Bryan Timothy Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Charity Baptist Church where Mr. Johnson was a longtime member. Dr. Clyde Stokes and Rev. Lee Graham will officiate with burial to follow in the Friendship Cemetery in Hahira. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
