SFC US Army (Ret.) Earnest Parrish, Sr., 82, of Hahira, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at South Georgia Medical Center.
He was born February 28, 1932 in Irwin County, a son of the late Henry Wesley Parrish, Sr. and Ruby Vasti Snellgrove Parrish. Mr. Parrish honorably served in the U.S. Army for twenty years, retiring in 1972. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Country Corner Grocery in Hahira, and later retired from King Of The Road as Maintenance Engineer. He was a member of Pineview Baptist Church, Hahira, and was a Mason.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Jean Parrish; a son, Steve Parrish; son-in-law, David Moore; a granddaughter, Casie Poore; a grandson, Stephen Moore; three great-grandchildren, Jasmine Dearman, Kaley Dearman, and Madison Dearman, all of Hahira; one brother, Jimmy Parrish and wife Linda of Jacksonville, FL; five sisters, Racheal Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Ruth Moorehead of High Shoals, Betty Hickman and husband Jesse of Birmingham, AL, Gwen Alligood and husband Doug of Hahira, and Vasti "Ty" Hobbs and husband Larry of Tifton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Moore.
Services for Mr. Earnest Parrish will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the Chapel of the Martin/McLane Funeral Home, 401 S. Church St., Hahira, Georgia 31632. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Fletcher Cemetery in Irwinville, Georgia.
