Earl T. (Tommy) Mayo, Jr.

March 25, 1939 — February 23, 2011

Earl Thomas (Tommy) Mayo, Jr. 71, of Valdosta, GA, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. Tommy was born in Thomasville on March 25, 1939 to the late Earl Thomas and Mary Livingston Adams Mayo, Sr. A 1957 graduate of Boston High School in Boston, GA. He attended Reinhardt College and Valdosta Tech. He worked for the FBI in Washington, DC and Gold Kist Soy in Valdosta. Tommy also worked with his father at Earl Mayo Rents for many years. Tommy enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors and following the activities of his nieces and nephews. He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Jimmy Brown of Jacksonville, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Cindy Mayo of Weaverville, NC; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Fox, Lucy Brown and Ben (Melinda) Brown all of Jacksonville, FL, Zack Mayo of Charlotte, North Carolina and Alex Mayo of Weaverville, North Carolina; great nieces and nephews, Tommy Brown of Jacksonville, FL, Maddie Bretz of Kannapolis, NC and John Brown of Jacksonville, FL, as well as a number of cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Redden W. and Lily Adams and his maternal grandparents, George and Pearl Mayo.

Services for Tommy will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1:30 pm in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Willie Beasley officiating. Interment will follow at the Boston City Cemetery. Mr. Kirk Beckham will officiate the graveside committal at Boston. The family will receive friends this evening, Friday, February 25, 2011 from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Caregivers Time Out (ACTO) c/o Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 100 East Park Ave., Valdosta GA 31602 or The Boston Cemetery Foundation, P.O. 492, Boston, GA 31626.
