EARL McKENZIE, JR., passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, after a lengthy illness at River Willows Nursing Home in Abbeville, GA.
Born in Brooksville, FL, and he later made Valdosta his home. He was employed at Brooks Welding for 24 years, where he was Supervisor over the beam line. He enjoyed his work until he became ill and had to retire. His hobbies were camping, hiking, woodworking, fishing and gardening. He owned Country Gardens and was President of the Valdosta Daylily Club. He was known for his beautiful seedlings for which he won many awards. He was a member of Ministry Baptist Church.
He is survived by a loving companion of 21 years, Jean Saunders of Valdosta, one step-daughter, Teresa Lewis and her husband Mike Lewis of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Corey and David Lewis of Valdosta; one great-grandchild, Malia Lewis; a brother-in-law, Jerry Bryant of Lake Park; a sister-in-law and husband, Patricia and Bobby Cribb of Atlanta; one niece and two nephews, Nikki Bryant, Colby Bryant, both of Lake Park, and Jason Baldree of NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alma McKenzie of Brooksville, FL.
Graveside Services for Mr. McKenzie will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Riverview Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Jim Schappaugh officiating.
