E. Lloyd DeMersseman, 70, of Commerce, GA, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019 at his home after an extended illness. The eldest of six children, Lloyd was born November 2, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Gene and Marie DeMersseman. He moved with his family to Blountstown, Florida in 1963, and then to Valdosta in 1968, where he lived most of his life. Lloyd was employed for twenty-five years by LARC, Inc., now known also as the Lowndes Advocacy Resource Center, an organization committed to providing persons with disabilities opportunities for working and living in their community. His parents assisted in the founding of LARC.
Lloyd loved Jesus and never missed an opportunity to attend church or to sing songs of faith. He was a member of the United Methodist Church most of his life, and most recently a member of Academy Baptist Church in Commerce, Georgia. A big sports fan, Lloyd enjoyed watching ball games of all kinds, especially those involving a sibling.
Lloyd will be remembered by his family and countless friends as someone who greeted every single day with excitement and a sense of wonder. An outgoing person who laughed easily and loved people, Lloyd possessed an amazing ability to turn strangers into friends almost instantly, simply by engaging them in conversation and learning their names, which he would remember upon the next encounter. As someone who enjoyed being wherever people were and assisting them in whatever they were doing, Lloyd daily touched the hearts of others and brought out the best in them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
