Drew "Blue Boy" Petty, 72, of Naylor, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born November 22, 1941 in Ocilla, a son of the late William Gil and Maude Broome Petty. He grew up in the Valdosta and Naylor area and for many years was a paint contractor, Drew Petty Painting. Mr. Petty was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, loved his Lord and prayed all the time. He enjoyed life, loved his family, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies, and at one time trained hunting dogs. He had a great love for the outdoors, planting and gardening, and animals, if it was in the woods he loved it!
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife of fifty-three years, Glenda H. Petty; he is survived by their six children, Lynn (Pumpkin) Boyd and husband Gene of Waycross, Angela Smith and husband Tony of Lenox, Michael Petty and wife Michelle of Naylor, Joey Gil Petty and wife Stacie of Naylor, Lisa Petty of Lakeland, and Mark A. Petty, Sr. of Naylor; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Wagstaff of Mary Esther, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bubba Boyd; three brothers, Dewey Petty, Ray Petty and Grady Petty; three sisters, Lois Robinson, Geraldine Cox and Athalee Troup.
The Petty family extends their gratitude to U.S. Renal, South Georgia Medical Center and Golden Isles Ambulance, especially Cookie and Chucky, for their care and compassion during his illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Good Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. A.M. Anderson and Mr. Cliff Grant officiating. Interment will follow at Good Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta.
