He was born June 26, 1946 in Portland, OR, the second son of the late Glenn and Claire Walker Tri, and graduated Valedictorian of Hillsboro High School Class of 1964. He was a graduate of Oregon State University where he earned a Bachelors Degree, continuing his education at University of Oregon he graduated with his Medical Degree. Dr. Tri enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his Internship, Residency and Fellowship of Cardiology at Letterman Army Medical Center in the San Francisco Bay area. He was then stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, for one year before moving to San Diego, CA, in 1980, serving in the Army Reserves until retirement, and practicing at Specialty Medical Group, Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, CA, and at Mission Bay Hospital, San Diego.
In July 1994 he moved to Valdosta and began South Georgia Cardiology, and during his tenure he practiced at South Georgia Medical Center and Smith Northview Hospital, retiring in May 2008.
He was a loving and wonderful husband, father and "gramps". Dr. Tri was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity for over forty years, the San Diego Anglers and the San Diego Rod and Reel Club. He was an award winning Cardiologist and Billfish Fisherman. He accomplished the Royal and Grand Slams for Billfishing. He is one of a few that have accomplished the Slams multiple times. In September of this year he was able to enjoy a final fishing trip to the Vanuatu Islands with his best friend, Ian McTurk, where he caught 5 Marlin in one hour. Dr. Tri was an over achiever in everything he did, and he always said "If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space."
Dr. Tri was predeceased by his wife of thirty-two years, Teresa Elmore Tri on March 28, 2009. He is survived by a son, Stephen Bradley Tri of Valdosta; two daughters, Melissa Carmichael and husband Ben of Valdosta, and Angela Fingal and her husband Curt of Beaverton, OR; four grandchildren, Holden and Abbi Carmichael, Alise and Camille Fingal; one brother, Nick Tri and his wife Kathy of Newberg, OR; his mother-in-law, Barbara Elmore of Griffin; and two sisters-in-law, Wanda Coble of Griffin, and Tinya Smith and her husband Bryan of Dallas; and many nieces and nephews.
Everyone is invited to a celebration of Dr. Tri's life beginning at 4:00 pm Saturday, October 24, 2009, at his home, 2703 Moore Crossing Road, Valdosta, Melissa's number 229-412-1259.
