Sofia Voldman, 87, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, February 6, 2020. She was born in Priluky, Ukraine to the late Efim Markovich Kaminer and Bella Lazarevna Birger Kaminer on March 16, 1932. Fleeing advancing German troops, in 1941 her family settled in Omsk, Russia. There she attended Medical School to become a physician. In the mid 1950’s, Sofia met Yuri Voldman in Omsk and they were married on July 9, 1955 and had been married for 55 years, prior to his death in 2010. After graduation form Medical School Sofia worked for several years as a family physician before returning to Omsk Physician’s Assistant School to become an instructor. In 2000, the Voldman’s moved to Texas to be closer to family members. They then moved again as a family to Valdosta in 2003. She was a member of Temple Israel.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Yakov & Mila Woldman of Valdosta; a sister, Mila Vinnitsky of Israel; two granddaughters, Alexandra (Will) Hardin of Boston, MA, and Tatiana (Don) Arntz of Austin, TX. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Eleanor Hardin of Boston, MA, Simon Arntz and Irene Arntz, both of Austin, TX.
A graveside service for Dr. Voldman will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Hebrew Section. Rabbi Moshe Elbaz will officiate. Condolences may be conveyed to the family on the obituary page of www.mclanecares.com Carson McLane Funeral Home.
