Dr. Sandra Dickson, 72, of Valdosta, died on Friday, May 10, 2019 at South Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health. She was born in Valdosta on January 5, 1947 to the late Otis Willard and Grace Devereaux Belote. She was a retired educator and was a member of the Clyattville United Methodist Church. Dr. Dickson began her teaching career at Northside-Warner Robins. From there, she taught at Hahira Junior High and was a social worker for the Lowndes County School System, and then served as the Assistant Principal at Hahira Middle School. She later moved into the role of the curriculum director for Lowndes County. She also served as Superintendent in Atkinson County and retired after serving as the Dean of Graduate Admissions at Piedmont College. Dr. Dickson was very involved with Georgia Retired Educators Association, Learning in Retirement, the Annette Howell Turner Arts Center, BARC, and the Theatre Guild of Valdosta.
She is survived by her son and daughter-n-law, B. Scott and Renee Dickson; her grandchildren, Anieyssa Dickson, Bardin Dickson, Weston Dickson, and Kinnon Dickson all of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Dickson and her brother, Bill Belote.
Services for Dr. Sandra Dickson will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. George Bennett and Pastor Aaron Kight officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
