Dr. Richard Lawrence "Larry" Moore (Professor Emeritus), 79, of Lake Park, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Langdale Hospice House following a period of declining health. He was born on May 8, 1945, in Jackson. Mississippi to the late Bick and Joyce Worchester Moore. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University and his doctorate in education from Auburn University. Dr. Moore arrived in Valdosta in the mid 1980s and became one of the chief faculty members in networking the campus of Valdosta State College, helping it to obtain the university status the institution now holds. He retired as the Director of Academic Computing from Valdosta State University in 2007. Needless to say, he was a computer enthusiast, but also had other passions which brought great enjoyment to his life. He was an avid sailor and longtime member of the Valdosta Yacht Club. As an accomplished home cook, he was especially skilled at smoking barbeque and often used ingredients grown in his garden. He also loved the crafts of woodworking and knot making. Dr. Moore was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his two daughters, Amanda Moore of Atlanta, and Sarah Moore of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his sister and brother-in-law, Margi and Tom Brownback of Murphy, North Carolina; his longtime companion, Nancy Turner of Lake Park. He was preceded by his sister, Linda Moore Miller.
Dr. Moore will be cremated according to his wishes and a private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
