Dr. Richard A. (Dr. Wash) Washabaugh, 72, of Wesley Chapel, Florida died on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Seattle, Washington, on December 25, 1943, he was the son of the late William Victor and Rose Marie Rinalducci Washabaugh. A graduate of St. Pete High School he received his Bachelor, Masters and his PHD in English Education from the University of Florida. Dr. Washabaugh briefly taught Junior High School prior to joining the faculty of Jones College in Jacksonville, where he taught for 15 years, eventually becoming Dean. His career as an Educator spanned more than 40 years, with faculty positions at Tampa College and finally at South University in Tampa where he retired as Director of General Studies. A seasoned traveler, he enjoyed trips to Europe, Asia, Mexico and New England.
Preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Melanie Ann Quigg Washabaugh, who died in 2013, Dr. Washabaugh is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Washabaugh of Valdosta, grandchildren, Brandon, Daniel, and Amanda Washabaugh of Valdosta; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Martin Byrdal of Palatka, Florida, and a special cousin, Gail Moran of Dudley, Massachusetts.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Ken Alford will officiate.
