Dr. Quentin Tally Lawson, Sr., 79, of Valdosta died Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Hahira on January 16, 1931 to the late Tally and Agnes Olliff Lawson and was a lifelong resident of this area. Dr. Lawson was a member of First Baptist Church. He graduated from Emory University with a BS Degree in 1951. He attended the Medical College of Georgia and graduated in 1955. He served in the United States Air Force for two years in Japan and returned to the Medical College of Georgia to begin a residency in Urology. Following the completion of his residency he and his wife, Joan moved to Valdosta where he began his medical practice in 1963 and in later years he and Dr. Joseph Brannen formed and opened Valdosta Urological Association retiring in 1996. He served on the Board of South Georgia Health Alliance and the Board of Pathology Associates. Dr. Lawson was devoted to his family and especially his grandchildren, loved the outdoors and had spent time during his retirement on the family farm in Hahira that has been in his family for three generations.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Joan Walton Lawson of Valdosta, three sons, Quentin T. Lawson, Jr. of Griffin, John Allen Lawson, Sr. of Gray and William Reid Lawson and his wife, Ashley Hunter Lawson of Jesup, eight grandchildren, John Allen Lawson, Jr., Jackson Conner Lawson, Peter Nathan Lawson, Madelyn Joanna Lawson, Caleb Hunter Lawson, Hannah Leah Lawson, Jonathan Reid Lawson and William David Lawson, his sister and brother in law, JoAnn and Paul Little of Orlando, Fla. and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Phil West and Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. A private committal at Friendship Cemetery will be held at a later time. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
