Dr. Patricia (Pat) Small Beverstein, 84, of Valdosta died on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 8, 1928 in New Castle, Kentucky to the late Kenneth Bassett Small and Mary Jackson Small. She retired as the Dean of the School of Nursing at Valdosta State University.
Previous to her service at VSU, she founded a number of Schools of Nursing including the School of Nursing at University of Louisville. Upon retirement, she and her husband traveled throughout the United States in their motor home. Pat loved playing Bridge and all her Bridge friends. She was a long time member of Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta.
Pat is survived by her husband, Jack T Beverstein of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Robert Berens; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Marianne Beverstein; grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan and Carmen Berens, Lauren and Todd Hughes, Jessica Beverstein and Kimberly Beverstein; great-grandchildren, Claire Nicole Berens and Hudson Thomas Hughes.
Services for Pat Beverstein will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The burial will take place on Friday, July 26, 2013 in Cadiz, Kentucky.
