Dr. Nevin E. Aiken

Dr. Nevin E. Aiken, M.D. 86, of Valdosta, and formerly of Asheville, North Carolina, and Fort Wayne, Indiana, died on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on November 12, 1919, he was the son of the late Clarence Ross and Goldie Evelyn Wertman Aiken. Dr. Aiken served in the Indiana National Guard attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a graduate of Indiana University Medical School. Dr. Aiken was a past president of the medical staff at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. As a physician he had been associated with the Aiken Medical Clinic, Ft. Wayne, Indiana from 1944-1982 and from 1982-1998 he worked at the VA Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. Dr. Aiken was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana and the First Presbyterian Church in Asheville, North Carolina.

Survivors are his wife, Barbara Aiken of Valdosta; sons and a daughter in law, Nevin David and Janet Thomas Aiken of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Michael Dean Aiken of Jacksonville, Florida, granddaughters, Leah Ann Aiken of Raleigh, North Carolina, Allison Nicole Aiken of Raleigh, North Carolina, Stacey Ann Aiken Grieb and great granddaughter, Reagan Iris Grieb of Bowling Green, Kentucky; grandsons, Eric Gregory Aiken of Bloomington, Indiana, Mark Andrew Aiken of Muncie, Indiana; sisters, Evelyn Aiken Seeger of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Charlotte Glassley of Lake Wawasee, Indiana; brother, Donald Aiken of Boynton Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lt. Col. Albert Ross Aiken of Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Dr. Arthur Aiken of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and sister, Clarirose Aiken of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Richard Hart will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3501 Bemiss Road, Valdosta, Georgia, 31602 or to First Presbyterian Church in Asheville, North Carolina.
