Dr. John Merriman

Dr. John Merriman, 73 of Valdosta, died at South Georgia Medical Center on Wednesday, November 8, 2006. Born on December 07, 1932, in Marysville, Kansas, he was the son of the late Ernest R. and Grace Fuason Merriman. Dr. Merriman was retired from Valdosta State College where he was Athletic Director. He served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Janice Merriman, he is survived by two sons, Michael Merriman of Faith, South Dakota and Donn Merriman of Boise, Idaho, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a brother, Harry Merriman.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2006
at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Don Stanley will officiate. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com. "In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Share the Wealth Physical Education Conference Flower Fund (c/o Flower Fund, 315 W. Georgia Ave, Valdosta, GA 31602). This fund will enable future Physical Education students to attend the annual conference, envisioned by John in 1986 while he was the Department Chair of the Valdosta State College Health and Physical Education Department."
