Dr. J. William "Bill" Martin, Iii

Dr. J. William Martin, III, 64, of Valdosta died September 23, 2014, at Langdale Hospice House. He was born on September 27, 1949 in Valdosta to J.W. and Shirley Hoye Martin. Dr. Martin practiced veterinary medicine in Lowndes County since 1974. He was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church. He graduated from Valdosta High School and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia in 1974 where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, friend, and a great mentor to his staff. In all things, he was a true gentleman.
Survivors include his wife Zan Ricketson Martin and his daughter, Elizabeth; his sister, Russell Martin Smith and husband, Jim; his nephew, Matthew R. Lawrence, and wife Esther-Marie; his niece, Catherine Lawrence Hunter, and husband Greg. Dr. Martin is also survived by his sister in law, Diana Mills and her husband, Dexter, of Marietta; his nephew, Ben Johnson of Buckhead, Georgia; his niece, Arin Megal and her husband, Jonathan of Cumming, Georgia; and his nephew, Clay Johnson, and his wife, Trina of Atlanta. He is also survived by his sister in law, Judy Ricketson of Dahlonega and his niece, Marianne Alexander of Cornelia, Georgia. Dr. Martin is also survived by his aunt, Euna Hoye Love of Columbia, SC. Dr. Martin is also survived in his veterinary practice by his partner, Dr. Kyle Harrell and his wife, Ashli. He was preceded in death by his son, William Lawrence Martin.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, between 5:30 and 7:30 at McLane Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at the family gravesite at Sunset Hill at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 26.
