Dr. Donald Emory Gerlock, 86, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, June 5, 2005 in Athens, GA. Born in Altoona, PA to the late Frank & Gladys Gerlock, he had lived in Valdosta for many years. Dr. Gerlock was a retired Professor of Education at Valdosta State University and former Principal of Pine Grove Elementary School. Dr. Gerlock was an active member at First United Methodist Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher and on the Administrative Board. He was a very sought after speaker at many functions within the community. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps in the 5th Air force, and fought in New Guinea and at the Battle of the Coral Sea. He was a teacher, coach, principal and professor of education.
Survivors include his brother and sister in law, James & Donna Gerlock of Chesterfield, MO; a daughter and son in law, Bonnie & James Murajda, of Watkinsville; two sons and daughters in law, Dr. Donald Jr. & Judy Gerlock, of Key Largo, FL, and Dr. Greg & Myra Gerlock, of Jonesborough, TN; ten grandchildren, Todd Emory Hatcher, Marietta, (triplets) Josie Hatcher Stone, Honey Hatcher Coppage, Paul Bennett Hatcher, III all of Valdosta, Emory Gerlock of Key Largo, FL, Lindsey Elizabeth Gerlock, Grace Reddick Gerlock, Hannah Marie Gerlock, Claire Anna Gerlock, Gregory Alan Gerlock, Jr., all of Jonesborough, TN; five great grandchildren, Davis Emory Hatcher, Caroline Spence Hatcher, both of Marietta, Tyler Bennett Coppage, of Valdosta, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Stone of Nashville, and Paul Bennett Hatcher, IV, of Lake Park. Also surviving are two sisters in law, Elizabeth Gerlock, of Nashville, TN and Merle Reddick of Valdosta. He is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Gerlock, and a brother, Frank Gerlock.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Billy Key will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
