Dr. Deane Mink, 81, of Valdosta died Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his residence. He was born on April 12, 1934. Deane grew up in Orlando, FL and lived there until age 14 and moved to Cocoa, FL where he finished high school. Deane played baseball in high school and signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He served in the United States Army for two years. After that Deane went to Chiropractic College and graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1961 and opened Mink Chiropractic in Valdosta. The Chiropractic Center is the largest facility in the southeast and since 1961 has treated over eighty thousand people. He was an active member of the Georgia Chiropractic Association and served in every capacity. Deane was a Lions Club member for over fifty years and served as chief fundraiser and held every office. He was an avid Florida Gator football fan. Deane was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as front door usher for over fifty years. He coached Little League and served on the Boys' and Girls' Club Board of Directors. Deane was a local American flag distributor giving flags and flagpoles to various schools, churches, the city of Valdosta and various individuals. He enjoyed fishing and tennis.
Deane is survived by his wife, Sue Dasher Mink of Valdosta, children, Mark Mink (Terry) of Valdosta, Debbie Mink Lee (Marvin) of Tallahassee, FL, Mike Mink (Tina), Matt Mink, and Dr. Mitch Mink (Holly), all of Valdosta, Cheri d'Albertis (Phil) of Panama City, Fl, Christie R. Dunn (Ryan) of Columbia Falls, Montana, grandchildren, Jessica Mink Haines (Ty), Megan Gatchell, Bo Gatchell (Patricia), Dustin d'Albertis, Ashlyn d'Albertis, Annie Grace Lee, Carter Mackenzie Lee, Sadie Joy Mink, Nathaniel Lawton Mink, and Cooper Dale Mink. Great grandchildren, Trevor Haines, Lindsey Haines, and Dot Gatchell, two sisters, Barbara Williams and Cynthia Mink of Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents Ivor Deane Mink, Sr. and Georgia Mae Edmiston Mink, and sister, Patricia Lawton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Morningside Baptist Church with Reverend Mac Weaver, Dr. Wayne Robertson and Dr. Ken Register officiating. A private burial will follow. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
