Dr. Charles A. Hodges, Jr., 87, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at his home. He was born in Dublin, GA on January 4, 1931, to the late Charles Augustus Hodges, Sr. and Anne Williamson Hodges. He graduated from Dublin High School in 1948 and University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in 1953. He received his Doctorate in 1958 from Medical College of Georgia. He served an internship at Macon Hospital from 1958-1959 and was a resident of Anesthesiology at Medical College of Georgia in 1961. He then moved to Valdosta where he founded Valdosta Anesthesia Associates at South Georgia Medical Center from 1961-1994. Dr. Hodges was a member of First Christian Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and pilot. He loved flying planes. He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Kappa Alpha Order at University of Georgia, and a founding member of ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out).
He is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Hodges, of Valdosta, his children, Charles A. III, and Rosemarie Hodges, of Atlanta, W. Alexander and Alayne Hodges, of Cypress, TX, Randi Hodges Beesing (Lloyd) of Jacksonville, FL, Winona Hodges Green (Joey) of Valdosta, and Selena L. Hodges (Jim) of Lago Vista, TX, his grandchildren, Chelsea and Cori Beesing, Caitlin and Charlotte Hodges, Alexandra and Teresa Hodges, his step grandson, Melvin N. Levers III, and step great grandson, Melvin N. Levers IV, and his sister, Margarette Chappell, of Dublin, GA, and his special family friend Minnie Berry. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annette Callahan, and Charlotte Alexander, and his half-brother, Robert Earl Hodges, and half-sister, Virginia Hardman.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Thom Gibson officiating. Entombment will follow at McLane Riverview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
