Douglas Lamar Singletary, Sr., 82, of Valdosta, died on Monday, October 8, 2012, at Lakehaven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Born in Pavo on January 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Henry Singletary and Lilly Croft Singletary. Mr. Singletary was a self employed carpenter. He was a Baptist.
Survivors are his daughters and sons in law, Margaret and Charles Starling of Valdosta, Sharon and Richard Rykard of Hahira; sons and daughters in law, Doug and Kathy Singletary of Hahira, Ferrell and Brenda Singletary of Valdosta; grandchildren, Shane and Tammie Starling, Shawn and Amy Starling, Angela and David Snyder, Amy and Andy Rykard, Chris and Sara Lyn Singletary, Heather and Nick Smith, Jeremy and Renna Spencer, Timothy and Brooke Parr, Rory and Catherine Hoke; sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Truett, a special companion, Shirley Bennett and a granddaughter, Jessica Shaver.
Funeral services for Mr. Singletary will be held in the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 12, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Pastor Eddie Dee will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
