Dorsie “Smokie” Jarel Farmer, 85, of Valdosta, passed at home on Friday, March 16, 2018 following a short illness. He was born in Bee, VA on October 14, 1932 to the late James Walter and Hazel Mark Kirk Tiller Farmer. Smokie was a door installation specialist for Overhead Door Company. He loved budding citrus trees. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He was a people person and never met a stranger. He was of the Church of God faith. He loved the Lord. He encouraged people to get right with God.
Smokie is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Jo Ann Phillips Farmer, of Valdosta, his five sons, Ricky Farmer, of Keaton Beach, Gary Farmer (Cindy), Kenny Farmer (Cindy), both of Winterhaven, FL, Julius Rutherford (Bridgett Ann), of Augusta, and Jeff Frier (Dedra) of Valdosta, his two daughters. Viola Singletary (Marty), of Valdosta, and Belinda Conner (Ricky), of Moultrie, his brother, Frank Farmer, of Branson Park, FL, and his brother and sister-in-law Earl Farmer (Eva), of Rifle Range, FL, his sister Pearl Kirk, of Jacksonville, FL, and twenty grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Peggy Jo Holton, two brothers Beldon Farmer, and Levi Farmer, and one sister Helen Rollins.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Johnny Justice officiating. Burial will follow at Fender Cemetery.
