Dorothy Sirmans Godwin

Dorothy Sirmans Godwin, 91, of Valdosta, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Lakehaven Nursing Home. She was born on February 13, 1921 in Valdosta to the late William B. Sirmans and Rebecca Roberts Sirmans. Mrs. Godwin was retired from Strickland Cotton Mills and was one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Godwin Lamb of Valdosta, two sons and one daughter in law, Herman Godwin of Western Grove, Arkansas and Wayne and Cheri Godwin of Jesup, GA, two sisters and one brother in law, Ruth and Moses Godwin of Augusta and Nell Hartley of Baldwin, FL, one sister in law, Susie Mae Smith of Texas, nine grandchildren, James E. Lamb, Jr. (Amal), Chris White (Christopher), Timothy Godwin, Nathaniel Godwin (Amy), John Godwin (Barbara), Daniel Godwin, Lydia Michels (Barry), Rachael Burk (Joel), Michael Godwin (Leah) and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her special cat and companion, Kitili. Mrs. Godwin is preceded in death by her husband, William C. Godwin, her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 10, 2012 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Chairman Jackey Moore and Brother Jerome Merine officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman. The family will receive friends from five until seven p. m. Saturday at the funeral home.
