Dorothy (Dot) Sirmans West, 69, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2007 at her home. Born in Lakeland to the late Abb T. & Thelma Conine Sirmans, Mrs. West had been a lifelong resident of this area. She graduated from Lanier County High School in 1955, and played on the basketball and tennis teams there. Mrs. West was a former member of The Mystery Ball Club, the Cotillion Club, The Holly Garden Club, the Readers Review and had worked for 35 years at Ear, Nose, Throat & Allergy Associates of South Georgia. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Horace R. (Buddy) West of Valdosta, a son, H. Reaves West, Jr. & wife Amy, of Philadelphia, PA; a daughter Ree West Nichols and husband Bill, of Valrico, FL; two grandchildren, Jason Taylor Nichols and Andrea Marie Nichols, both of Valrico, FL. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister in law, Donald Sirmans, and Caswell Benn & Paulette Sirmans, all of Lakeland, a sister in law, Sis West May, of Valdosta, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. West is preceded in death by a brother, Dalton Talley Sirmans and by two brothers in law, William (Bill) Stanley West, III, and Jack May. Funeral services for Mrs. West will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2007 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Jones and Rev. Jim Danner will officiate. Entombment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening, Wednesday, April 25, 2007 from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Boulevard, Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345; or the Susan G.
