Dorothy L. Hughes

"PRAISE THE LORD ANYWAY" Dorothy L. Hughes, 93, of Valdosta died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Langdale Place. She was born in Columbus, GA on March 11, 1923 to the late Andrew Guy Martin and Iola Pearl McFarland Martin. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker. She was a member of Clyattville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years, sang in the choir and served on the prayer chain ministry. Mrs. Hughes loved gardening, flowers and especially her roses. She enjoyed visiting New Covenant Church.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by three sons and two daughters in law, Andy and Marie Hughes of Valdosta, Richard C. Hughes of Charleston, SC, William Harvey Hughes III and Charo of Valdosta, one daughter and son in law, Dianne and Frank R. Franks of Valdosta, nine grandchildren, Andy Hughes (Becky), Colonel Marty Hughes (Angela), Jeannie Mindziak (MSgt Mike), Major Michael McDonald (Angie), Stacey Porter (Allen), Frankie Franks, Deedee Chmielewski (Craig), William Harvey Hughes IV, (Betsy) and Rosana Hughes, fifteen great grandchildren, special friends, Julia, Carolyn, Katelyn and Buffy. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Harvey Hughes, Jr. and her sister, Evelyn Dauphin.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 20, 2016 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Ellis and Pastor Ronnie Hesters officiating. Burial will follow at Benevolence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from one until two p. m. Monday at the funeral home.
