Dorothy I. Peters, 88, of Valdosta died on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Langdale Hospice House following a short illness. She was born in Valdosta on April, 29, 1922 to the late Charles A. and Carrie Viola Touchton Burkhalter and has been a resident of this area all her life. She was a homemaker and a charter member of the Clyattville Baptist Church where she attended faithfully.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Upchurch of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Latrelle Peters of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Curtis Parsons of Hickory, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Libby Peters of Valdosta; grandsons, Jason Peters of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Derek Peters and his wife Janet of Ideal, Georgia; granddaughter, Jennifer Taylor of Valdosta; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Howard Peters; a grandson, Jacob Peters; 2 brothers, Ancil Burkhalter and Calvin E. Burkhalter, and 8 sisters, Mildred Mallard, Ferrell Burkhalter, Corrine Luther, Grace Rykard, Pauline Davies, Lottie Bailey, Irma Nell Blevins, and Johnnie Mae Burkhalter.
Services for Dorothy I. Peters will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce McCracken officiating. The burial will follow in the Swilley Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
