Dorothy Hodges

Dorothy Hodges, 86, of Valdosta died on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Holly Hill Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Hahira, Georgia on June 3, 1929 to the late Wylie and Jewel Lee Jones Harris and has been a resident of Lowndes County all her life. She was a care-giver and homemaker who loved to fish, work in her garden, and love on her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Buddy Williams of Valdosta; grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy and Ronald Castleberry of Hahira, Tracy and Vernon Moore of Poulan, Toni Bradford of Valdosta, Lisa and Edward Walker of Albany, and Brent Lavender of Athens; great-grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Emily Castleberry of Hahira, Justin and Ashlyn Castleberry of Valdosta, Melissa and Michael Boyd of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Hank and Kassie Moore of St. Mary's, Michael Moore of Sumner, Georgia, Kevin and Tiffany Bradford of Valdosta, Leland Lavender and Cayden Lavender both of Athens; several great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Smith of Live Oak, Florida, Wanda Gaskins of Lake Butler, Florida, Barbara Jean River of Cecil, and Mary Elizabeth Gibbs of Evansville, Indiana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Bobbie Harris of Lake Butler, Florida and Jerry and Ruby Harris of Hahira; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Hightower and Lawraette Harris, and three brothers, I.W. Harris, George Harris, and Jay Harris.

Services for Dorothy Hodges will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016 in the chapel of the Martin/McLane Funeral Home of Hahira. The burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.
