Estelle Scruggs, 93, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on April 14, 2005, at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness. Born in Macon, on January 18, 1912, she was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Margaret Estelle Ellis Etheredge. Mrs. Scruggs had been associated with Belks. She was a charter member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was active for many years with the Annual Bazaar and the Param Sunday School Class. Always helpful, caring and giving, Mrs. Scruggs ministered to others, especially to shut ins. She enjoyed activities and felloship at the Craig Center.
Survivors are her son and daughter in law, James R. and Pamela Fender of Valdosta; daughters and sons in law, Carol and Larry Tewell of Lawrenceville, Frances Villano (the late Donald T. Villano, Jr.) of Hanover Township, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Franklin Fender, Sr., her second husband, Eugene V. Scruggs, and her son, Eugene “Rawhide” Fender, and two grandsons, Jeffery Eugene Tewell and Jessie Fender.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Reverend Craig Rikard will officiate.
