Doris V. Setliffe, 81 of Valdosta and the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, FL, died on August 25, 2006 at Shands Lakeshore Hospital in Lake City, FL. Born on March 9, 1925 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Thomas Marvin & Rosalie Lyle Setliffe, Doris was a graduate of Tennessee Temple University. She went to Africa to serve with SIM (Sudan Interior Mission/Serving in Mission) with the Uduk people from 1957-1963 at Chali, Sudan as headmistress of the Chali Uduk School. From there she returned to the USA where she served as a co-editor of children’s Bible literature at The Mailbox Club in Valdosta, GA. These Bible lessons have been translated into many languages and are being used by a number of other organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Boxes. Doris was a former member of Lee Street Baptist Church (now Crossroads Baptist) and was a member of Grace Bible Church in Valdosta. She was known for her spiritual depth, her devotion to God, her intellect, her great wit and sense of humor.
She is survived by several cousins, many friends and former associates. She is preceded in death by her sister, Martha Setliffe.
Funeral services for Mrs. Setliffe will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, in Valdosta, GA. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. A visitation for Doris will be held from 1 p.m. until service time on Tuesday.
