Doris Catherine Stalvey, 95, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Fellowship Home. She was born in Greenville, South Carolina to the late George Franklin and Dora Belle Brown Patterson. Mrs. Stalvey grew up in Hahira, Georgia and lived most of her adult life in Valdosta. She enjoyed a long career as a nurse at South Georgia Medical Center, retiring in 1993. Mrs. Stalvey was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church and Lee Street Baptist Church before it incorporated into Crossroads. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years and was devoted to her church and Bible study. As an avid reader, she was a wealth of knowledge on many topics and always an interesting conversationalist.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Barry Nedoba of Atlanta, Sandra and Gary Register of Union, Kentucky, Denice and Steve Ulm of Valdosta; her son, Mark (Melissa) Ervin of Tallahassee, Florida; granddaughter and her husband Daphne Copeland and Caleb Hellerman of Hudson, Massachusetts; grandsons, Brent Register and his wife Jessica Register of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Zachary Ulm of Valdosta; great-grandchildren, Silas, Harper and Inman of Hudson Massachusetts, and Layla and Ava of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded by her son, Julian Waldo Stalvey, Jr., brothers and sisters and their spouses, Floyd and Pat Patterson, Alvin and Maude Patterson, Leona Patterson Staten and James Lanning, Georgia Mae Patterson and Felton Lee, Arlene and Dean Patterson and Frank Ritchie, Melinda Patterson and C.A. Sutton, Thomas Edward Patterson, James Wofford and Fannie Patterson, Earl Phillip and Kathleen Patterson.
Graveside services for Doris Catherine Stalvey will be held at Friendship Cemetery in Hahira with Deacon Roy Rhodes officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church.
