Doris Montgomery Roark, 73, of Valdosta, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center.
She was born in Valdosta on June 19, 1937, and is predeceased by her parents, Jake and Charlotte Akins Montgomery. She was a longtime member of the Baptist faith and dearly loved being a part of the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Clyde Roark of Valdosta; their children, Steven Roark and wife Amanda of New York City, Karen Roark Gibson and husband Mike of Bethlehem, Duane Roark of Valdosta, and Eric Roark and fiancé Tracy Richards of New York City; twin grandchildren, Sarah Gibson and Ethan Gibson of Bethlehem; two brothers, Stanley Montgomery and wife Barbara of Asheville, NC, and Mitchell Montgomery and wife Elaine of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Janet Montgomery Massey and husband John of Hartwell; and many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her for her gentle and loving ways.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Roark will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2011 in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Henry Cannington and Dr. Marvin DelCollins officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, prior to the funeral services.
